Science fiction on TV - Dumb or Dumber?
01/11/2002 Source: Jessica Martin

The Galactic Senate: polls & voting for November 2002.

Nothing gladdens our heart more than to see democracy in action in the science fiction and fantasy world. If you feel the same, dear user, then here's our current and past online polls, as voted for by many a fine fellow (you too can vote, but choose wisely) ...

Science fiction on TV - Dumb or Dumber?

This month our editor makes the case that science fiction on television is plumbing new depths of dumb. So is your intelligence being insulted by TV ... or is this current fare just the kind of escapism you wished for?

Thick as two short planks. Yep, science fiction on television is on a kamikaze dive towards intellectual brain death. The marketing money machine has swelled like the brain of some evil genius kept in a jar, and is pushing the whole SFF market downhill faster than the Finland bobsled team on ice.

You calling me dumb? Heck SF on TV has always been a little camp and leaning more than a little towards the dumb side. Does anyone remember the original black and white Flash Gordon running as B movies on the cinema? Or those terrible episodes of BattleStar Galactica from the 1980s? Was Thunderbirds great art? SF makes for fine entertainment, and entertainment is rarely highbrow.
