God doesn't return his calls any more 01/09/2007 . Source: Geoff Willmetts
A short story by GF Willmetts. Let my carbon footprint be light in the winter snow and tell al-Qaeda you aren't letting them into your heaven... | Who are 'they'? I mean in term of 'they will sort things out'. Passing the buck goes ever higher but where does it stop? How high do you climb up the ladder before there is nobody left on Earth to ask? Then who do you ask? I mean, who do you propose complaining about the weather to? It isn't a 'they' so much as a person and than can only be one person and yet God doesn't return his calls any more. I found my letter of only a couple years ago still waiting for a reply. I'll read it again now.
Dear God
Are you there? Can you make the weather better for everyone?
Spare us from hurricanes and flash floods
Spare us from droughts and fires
Spare us from earthquakes
Sort out this global warming that everyone is shouting about
Let my carbon footprint be light in the winter snow
Tell al-Qaeda you aren't letting them into your heaven
If you have any time left, God, bless Mummy and Daddy.
Love, Amy
I was never sure that I should write 'Amen' or 'God bless'? The letter's been in a drawer for years waiting for a reply. I would have posted it except I don't have an address. The postman hurried quickly away when I asked if he knew where God lived so he could deliver my letter. Mummy said to pray in church but who would hear my voice amongst so many or so few?
Is there anyone else we can ask? Do we look out in the universe to see if there is anyone else is out there? If we find them, do you think 'they' can sort things out? Do you think 'they' might be doing a similar thing and think we are the 'they' who will sort their things out? If they believe in God and find he isn't answering their calls any more?
Are we that bad or is God's phone on the blink? If that is the case, who does he contact to repair his phone? Is there a Mrs God whom he bellyaches to and she gets things done? Why else is God not listening?
If God doesn't care then he should say so. Not leave us in hope that he might come back. Someone at school told me God doesn't exist. A figment of our imagination. But if there is no God then who will come out sort us out? Does that mean heaven's been evacuated and no one left to take the calls? Does that mean there is no 'they' as well? Then we really would be alone. No hope than things we do ourselves and that is turning bad.
Faith offers so very much but gives little in return. Should we pray or help ourselves or just think God never answers his calls any more.
